A volunteer fire department in Asheville, North Carolina, occupies a building that functions as both a working emergency facility and a familiar community landmark. Its metal roof, more than 25 years old, had grown visibly aged and weathered. The department needed a restoration that would renew the roof’s protective performance and its public-facing appearance at the same time, without the cost of new metal panels.
The roof spanned approximately 172 squares, about 17,200 square feet, which is a substantial area for a replacement budget at a volunteer department. A quarter century of mountain weather had worn the finish and stressed the roof’s seams, fasteners, and panels. Because the firehouse is a recognizable local building, aesthetics carried real weight in the decision alongside waterproofing.
An American WeatherStar approved contractor installed the company’s Color-Gard restoration system. The project began with an in-depth cleaning of the metal surface, followed by repairs to seams, fasteners, and panels to restore the roof’s mechanical integrity. Crews then applied Color-Prime 915, a rust-inhibitive primer formulated to lock down weathered metal, and finished with High-Gloss Acrylic 215, a topcoat engineered for a high-build, architectural-quality finish.
The completed roof delivers improved reflectivity, weatherability, and abrasion resistance, along with the colorfastness and dirt resistance that keep a prominent building looking maintained for years. The firehouse gained renewed protection against the elements and a refreshed appearance befitting its role in the community, all at restoration cost rather than replacement cost. The project shows how acrylic color systems can serve buildings where appearance and performance both matter.
